SHIPPING & POLICIES

Do you offer local pick up?

Yes! You will need to contact me via whitepinerising@gmail.com BEFORE MAKING A PURCHASE for a code to enter at checkout that will take shipping costs off your order. I will not be refunding shipping costs post purchases.

Checkout now allows for more than one code to be entered at a time, so you can now use a free shipping code and a discount code when applicable!

Pick up is a residential location in Hazel Park, Michigan (address disclosed in correspondence). Send an email to whitepinerising@gmail.com directly after ordering to arrange your pick up date and time. Otherwise, I will reach out via the email you provided once processing your order (typically around 4-6 days post purchase). Please be mindful to check your inbox. If I cannot make contact with you within 8 days of first attempt, you agree to forfeit your order without refund. No exceptions.

After contact is established, make plans to pick up your order within the following week. If you need more time, just ask! Communication is key.

Pick ups are placed on porch or in mailbox. I place orders outside 5-20 minutes before the scheduled pick up time. White Pine Rising is not responsible and will not replace items that melt/freeze from outdoor temperatures if you cannot make the agreed upon time for pick up. Think of it as it’s in the hands of the post carrier now. If you think you will be late, immediately send an email to alert me and I’ll bring the items inside if I’m able.

What do I do if my package was lost/damaged/stolen?

I’m really sorry that happened. Fortunately, you can contact your local post office or go to USPS.com to file a claim! Make sure you have the tracking number and a photo of the damaged package (this is crucial). White Pine Rising is not responsible for lost, stolen, damaged, or broken orders and does not offer refunds for the mistakes of the carrier. Each package is thoroughly packaged for protection during transit. If there was damage to your package, please make sure to speak with your local post office to resolve.

Can I return an item for a refund?

I do not accept returns or refunds for any herbal product unless a mistake has been made on my behalf. You may be asked to provide photos.

If there is a problem with your order that is from my own doing (such as the wrong order was sent), please contact me via whitepinerising@gmail.com with your order number and photo of items to work out a solution together.

If you purchased a garment or other non-herbal item that you’d like a return on, please email whitepinerising@gmail.com with your inquiry. White Pine Rising does not cover return shipping expenses for unwanted items, but will cover shipping costs for mistakes made on my end.

Do you combine orders?

Short answer: No, not typically.

Long answer: Combing orders is only approved if we have had correspondence. If approved, excess shipping costs will be refunded. Please email your order numbers as soon as possible to whitepinerising@gmail.com to inquire.

How do I use a tincture?

Dosing can be very personal and dependent on your desired outcome. All herbal tinctures will be labeled with their own very general ‘suggested use’ meant for adult use. That said, I like to suggest to start out slow (10-20 drops orally) with any new-to-you herbal ally. This allows you to build a relationship with a herb or formula and learn how your body responds before increasing dose. Talk with your practitioner about increasing doses or do so at your own discretion with what works for your body. Suggested ways to use a product are stated in the product listing as well as on the product label, but these are only suggestions. It is strongly encouraged to do your own independent research on each individual herb along with your personal needs and any medications you may be taking.

My tinctures are made with almost entirely fresh herbs macerated in 95% organic spirits. They can sometimes be quite strong to the taste! Tinctures can be taken straight on the tongue (for tasting the flavor profiles, such as for Bitters), under the tongue (AKA sublingually, to soak into the bloodstream quicker when appropriate), with a sip of water to ease the bite of alcohol, or diluted in beverages.

Do you use essential oils?

Very rarely. There are many reasons why I do not often use them in my craft. The environmental effects they have are a huge reason, and another is that essential oils do not offer the wide range of properties that a whole plant infusion has. You will only see very small quantities of EO’s strategically used in any of my products, if any at all.

What is the shelf life of each herbal product & how do I care for them?

Because I work seasonally with harvests and small batches, you can be assured that the item you have purchased is likely from the most recent batch. It’s rare that I will have product left from over two batches prior — everything is fresh fresh fresh!

Please make sure to thoroughly read each product listing carefully. I try my best to include all the most important information needed for your shopping experience to be convenient.

Tinctures are alcohol based and have the potential to last indefinitely when stored properly, airtight and away from sun exposure/heat. However, I recommend to use within 1-2 years for optimal potency.

Beeswax based salves and balms are greatest when used before 12 months. Store away from heat and sun exposure. Use clean fingers to apply.

Oils and serums are recommended to be used within one year, stored away from heat and sun exposure. Use the dropper without touching it to anything to avoid contamination.

Creams are topicals that have water added which has the potential of spoiling quicker without preservatives, but can often last upwards of a year with proper care. Store in a cool, dry area and always use a freshly cleansed and dried finger or utensil each time you dip. Contamination may cause mold. Keep in refrigerator for prolonged use.

I recommend enjoying any sugar based syrup within 1-4 months of purchase and within 6 months for honey based syrups, or until spoiled. Store both in refrigerator.

Elixirs are typically part tincture and part syrup, often using a natural sugar source like raw honey or maple syrup. Recommended use is within 1 year. Stored on counter away from heat or in refrigerator.

Oxymels are vinegar and honey based and have the potential to ferment if stored near heat and not consumed within 6 months. Refrigerate to slow the fermentation process, or gently reheat in a pot on the stove to kill off the yeast and bacteria. The fermentation is not necessarily harmful for consumption, but it’s a taste preference for many.

What materials do you use for dye?

I work primarily with plants growing in my own ecosystem and occasionally with well-known (non local) dye plants that I source from suppliers. I am in a continuous study with local and bioregional plants and choose to put my focus here, building deeper relationship to place. I forage for these plants with great responsibility to ensure their future growth. Because I am working with lesser-known plants that do offer dye, the range of color is more limited but always surprising with the variant hues that can be coaxed. This is place-based wearable art.

Why are most products in clear bottles?

Because color is beauty is medicine, to me. I adore and find value in the visual effects of being able to see the hues of herbal extracts. Aesthetics swoon me. And it’s another way I like to connect to the medicine, and thought others may enjoy that too. :)

As stated above, I advise that all products should be stored away from sun and heat to prevent rapid degradation. This is the same recommendation for any amber glass too.

How do Shop Releases work?

The shop is only open during scheduled shop releases typically once a month beginning on a Wednesday. The shop is password protected at all other times. Mailing list subscribers receive a passcode for early shopping access before each release. After which, the shop will be live to the public.

This style of periodic shop releases was chosen to honor and support seasonal harvests, cycles of creation, and personal and business well-being. Resting in-between is important and respected here.

You may want to sign up for the newsletter to be first in line for the updates. Newsletters are the surest way of knowing when the next drop is, and you will receive early shopping access for all future releases just for signing up - plus occasional exclusives. Subscribers are my priority! You can also follow on IG @whitepinerising for news updates.

When will you restock my favorite product?

I work within the earth’s seasonal rhythms and cycles. There are quite a few products that you may find all year round, although many will be offered seasonally. It will always depend on what is being offered by the land and how harvests shake out. Further, all herbal preparations are crafted in small batches. Slight variations may occur from batch to batch, season to season.

How do I care for a eco dyed garment?

Eco dyed garments are as ephemeral as the plants used to create them - and we prefer it that way. I am working mostly with plants found local to our environment that lend their unique coloring, far from the standards of commercial chemical dyeing. The plant dyeing done in studio is intended to be long lasting and eventually ephemeral. Death cycles are valued here. It’s important to us that the finished garment be as natural as possible and will once again be reclaimed by nature. To care for all naturally dyed garments it’s suggested to hand wash in cold water with pH neutral detergent and hang to dry. Keep away from overly exposed sunlight to prevent rapid fading. If fading occurs, you may wish to have your garment re-dyed for a fresh new look!

Do you work with organic ingredients?

I exclusively work with organic, responsibly foraged, or garden grown ingredients for all herbal medicines. When I cannot organically grow the herb myself or ethically forage it, I work with local or small American herb growers before sourcing from larger companies. All spirits used is organic, all oils are cold pressed and unrefined, all beeswax and honey is local and raw. Sourcing locally as much as possible is a top priority.

How can I contact you for teaching a workshop or collaborating on a project?

Email me at whitepinerising@gmail.com for all workshop & project inquiries! For dye projects, I ask that you keep in mind my ethics for sourcing plants locally - what is available to me is what I work with inside the limitations of the seasons. Small batch commissions are preferred and prioritized to honor this way.
